05 - Reference Polygonal and Modification

In this video I made a cylinder that is encased in four rods which are secured by the blocks and two sets of nuts.

To create these rods, I had to use a reference image to get it to the correct scale. at the ends of the rods I made them look like screws so the nuts look natural. To make these screws I made multiple edge loops and then scaled them in to give them a ridged effect.

Next in the video I moved onto the blocks. Once again I used reference images to make it to the right scale. On the edges of the blocks I made bevels to add a greater depth. Next I used a modifier called Boolean, there are three settings and I selected the difference option and selected the object I renamed to rods. What this does is if the rods are colliding with the block when I click apply it will remove the geometry around the rods making prefect sized holes corresponding to the size of the rods.

Finally I created a circle and aligned it to the nut on the reference image. I extruded the circle out and scaled it inwards to give it some depth. After making the nuts I added the Boolean modifier and choose the option called Difference. The same thing apply's to the nuts as it did with the blocks when the nuts are colliding with the object selected and then applied then the collided geometry will be deleted making a perfect sized hole for the nuts.

After finishing the modelling of this object I moved onto giving it some materials. To create a material, you select the material tab and click new. From there you can mess around with many different options making the texture look different with everything you click.

This is my final rendered image of the model I made.
